A SELF-FULFILLING PROPHECY? Or Weather-weather lang iyan!!!
By: Danny S. Villanueva
Popular politics call it the People Power II, others call it transfer of power by mob rule, while others say it was a coup d etat to topple a president by force. Whatever, the change was fast, bloodless, smooth, spontaneous and electrifying. This is gratifying. Buti na lang. Thank you Lord.
I observed that since the election time and up to Erap’s assumption to presidency, his detractors, critics and “enemies” were already having a hay day watching closely and criticizing his every move and always anticipating, predicting and wishing that he fail and be doomed. Self-righteousness was heavy, no longer in the air, but in every heart of people hating Erap. Erap’s opponents condemn him so great that they foresee that he would only be there for a year or so to function as chief executive of the country. To make things worst, certain sector of the clergy ganged up on him, too. To maintain focus, Erap jokes became a favorite pastime everywhere, even on the pulpit, to a point it graduated to malice and bad taste from just fun and play in words.
Well, he lasted for almost 3 tormenting years, but finally ousted for good (?). This is what we may see as a self-fulfilling prophecy, that he is destined to doom. Kawawa naman siya. Sabi nga ng iba, “Kasi hindi siya marunong magdala, dumiscarte kaparis ng ibang presidente, ayaw makinig, his style of governance is kanto type, lacks finish…” and many more. Evidently, there are misdeeds, graft and corruption in his reign, the moral question of having mistresses and the habit of gambling and drinking. Well, any of the past presidents or anyone for that matter could cast the first stone, sabi nga.
With the new government installed right now, still I see the division among our people, the self-righteousness pervades, rejection and labeling continue. Vengeance and hatred by the “victors” against the “losers” and vice versa are a daily menu. Where is healing? Where is love?
Sabi nga ng iba at ni Erap, weather-weather lang iyan. Lord, help! DSV
